CHRISTMAS PRAYER

     God of Christmas, it is 2021, yet we find ourselves, like the shepherds, drawn back to a manger in Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place.  As we gaze upon the Christ child, we know that Emmanuel has come to us.  We know that you have given our weary and struggling world reason to rejoice.  In Jesus’ cry, you offer hope to all who cry.  By the light of his natal star, you shatter our darkness and help all who are seeking to find their way to you.  In the stillness of the night, your arms embrace us with serenity and peace.  Open our hearts and spirits anew to the news of the angels, the wonder and praise of the shepherds, and our own joy at finding that we too have a place at the manger, a place within your story of salvation.  As we partake of broken bread and poured out cup this night, remind us that the Good News of Christmas is meant for all people and that we are now messengers, called upon to help others experience Christ in the manger of their lives.  Come into our hearts, Lord Jesus, there is room in our hearts for thee, and in your name we sing the prayer you taught us, “Our Father, who art in heaven…
